Legal Insurance Information No. (350)

For more than seven years, I have been following the issue of female teachers at the Ministry of Education's literacy centers, which are directly supervised by the ministry through its various directorates and were established more than twenty years ago.

The issue boils down to the fact that the female teachers and ushers working in these centers receive wages that barely reach half of the approved minimum wage, that they work five days a week, that they are not yet covered by social security, that they are deprived of any kind of vacation, and that their wages are even deducted on Fridays and official holidays..!

Seven years ago, during a lecture on social security in Madaba, I heard a bitter complaint from some of the teachers working in these centers. They complained that they were not covered by the social security umbrella, despite the fact that several years had passed since they joined the literacy centers, and that they worked permanently, five days a week, under the direct supervision of the Ministry of Education directorates, and with very low salaries.

Since that time, I have been doing my best to try to raise a cry for justice for these teachers, and even the muezzins who work in these centers were subjected to great injustice. I wrote an article in one of the newspapers that day, in which I mentioned that the salary that the muezzin receives from the Ministry of Education is (10) dinars per month, no more. When the Minister of Education at the time read the article, he called me and told me that he did not know about this issue and that he was astonished by this information, and he promised to amend the instructions for these centers through the Council of Ministers..!

The number of literacy centers is about (550) centers, and the same violations of the rights of female teachers and female tutors working in these centers still exist..!

Teachers in adult education and literacy centers are appointed by the Ministry of Education, and the highest salary a teacher receives is (4.8) dinars per day, which amounts to approximately (134) dinars per month in exchange for giving three classes daily. To this day, they have not been covered by the provisions of the Social Security Law, despite the passage of many years since some of them joined these centers for continuous work. This means that they are still outside the umbrella of social protection. There is no guarantee, no minimum wage, no health insurance, no annual leave, and no labor rights or employee rights. As for the issue of female muezzins, I do not know whether they continue to receive ten dinars per month or whether their wages have been raised..!!!

Literacy teachers are appointed by the Ministry of Education and work under its supervision. They are subject to monitoring, evaluation, and supervision by educational staff from the Ministry. They use the Ministry's stationery and receive their salaries from the Ministry. What further dependency is there that would prevent them from being co
