It is unfortunate that every now and then we witness victims of work-related accidents and injuries among workers in the construction sector without anyone taking action or raising their voices, whether from the Ministry of Labor, the Social Security Institution, or the labor unions...!

Today, a non-Jordanian worker fell to his death from the fifth floor of a building under construction. He is most likely not covered by the provisions of the Social Security Law, which will result in the loss of his rights and the rights of his family, who will be at the mercy of the winds of destitution, poverty and loss.

Praise be to God, I have followed dozens, if not hundreds, of work accidents that resulted in the deaths of workers, whether Jordanians or expatriates, and we saw how the majority of those who fell among the workers in the construction sector were not covered by any social protection, especially social security insurance.. and the rights of most of them were unfortunately lost with the winds of neglect, disregard and lack of follow-up by all concerned responsible parties... and their blood was shed in vain.. and it is on the neck of every negligent official who did not fulfill his duty to protect them according to the applicable legislation..!!!

This is an appeal I address to the Director General of Social Security, my colleague Dr. Hazem Rahahleh, and I know the extent of his keenness to protect workers and his concern for their interests, to give the issue of employment in the construction sector in particular the great importance it deserves, and for the institution to rise up with all its cadres when a work accident occurs in this sector and leads to the death of a worker, as it is not permissible for a worker to fall in this sector or another without being covered by the Social Security umbrella, especially since the number of workers in the construction sector is estimated at more than (90) thousand workers, while the number of those covered by Social Security is only (38) thousand workers..!!!
